Ridden Hives are a co-op activity that enriches the Campaign and Trial of the Worm game modes with the first DLC expansion Tunnels of Terror.
To explore these labyrinthine caverns, at least one player in the team must have the Tunnels of Terror expansion.
A total of seven different Ridden Hives have been implemented into the game so far. These offer new areas to explore as well as new weapons and weapon attachments that can be found inside of them.
How to enter Ridden Hives[]
Ridden Hives can appear in every Mission, with a few exceptions. Exceptions to this are the respective Finale Missions of each Chapter and the fourth act of the Campaign.
To enter a Ridden Hive, the group must locate the entrances.
Once an entrance is discovered, the entire team must gather at the entrance and wait for a 5-second countdown. If at least one player moves away from the entrance before the countdown is over, the entry will be cancelled and the process will have to be repeated.
After the countdown is successfully completed, the current Mission will be declared a success. This also counts towards progress for achievements to unlock the ZWAT skins on Nightmare and No Hope difficulty levels, for example.

Skull Totems[]

In addition, the new currency, Skull Totems, can only be obtained in the Ridden Hives. Players must find these totems and bring them safely to one of the many exits. Players can receive a maximum of six Skull Totems if they find the first three Skull Totems and gain access to a so-called Inner Lair and successfully complete it.
If the group successfully extract one or more of these totems from the Ridden Hives via an exit, they will be converted into the
Skull Totem currency. With this they can purchase new exclusive cards and cosmetic items in the supply line The Collectors which has been specially developed for this purpose.
Ridden Hives Overview[]
The following list gives an overview of the currently available Ridden Hives.
Warped Chests[]
Walker is about to open a Warped Chest.
Warped Chests can be tracked down within the Ridden Hives or outside these as along as Tala is part of the Cleaner squad.
These Warped Chests not only house the Legendary weapons and weapon accessories, but also inflicts a random Corruption Card to the party when the Warped Chest is opened. Using either the legendary quick accessory Cursed Key or a Tool Kit will open these without triggering their Corruption Card. Regular weapons and attachments can also be discovered, as well as a map shrine.
For more information regarding the Legendary Weapons and the Legendary weapon attachments, visit the corresponding articles Legendary Weapons and Attachments.
Inner Lair[]
Even though there are seven Ridden Hives, technically there are only six, because The Nursery is a so-called Inner Lair, which can spawn randomly in the middle of a Ridden Hive. This can be recognized by a red glowing entrance and requires the presence of all Cleaners in the entrance area, just like entering a regular Ridden Hive.
After successfully counting down the 5-second countdown, the Ridden Hive is considered completed and any Skull Totems the team had in their possession are credited to them.
Once the transition between the Ridden Hive and the Inner Lair is complete, the group will find themselves in a huge chamber where they will find several gates. These can be opened by means of a C4 charge and contain useful items and another C4 charge, as well as numerous Ridden and Mutations and boss enemies.
Inside the Inner Lair, only Common Ridden can naturally spawn in this area once a gate has been opened. All other types of Ridden can only be found behind the gates. Additionally, there are no timed hordes in this area.
There are numerous items and Warped Chests in this chamber that the party can use either before, during, or after encountering the dangers that lurk in the Inner Lair.
For the boss encounters, the group will face all three bosses: The Breaker, the Hag as well as the Ogre will one by one stand in the way of the Cleaners to stop them from calling the Skull Totems their own.
When all dangers have been overcome the group finds an exit and is transported to the next mission.
