Back 4 Blood Wiki

You can't help but admire it, from such a simple form to amalgamations of destruction.

Doctor Rogers

Ogres are monstrous, building-sized Mutations. They are one of the three natural spawning boss-type Ridden in Back 4 Blood, the others being the Hag and Breaker.

Overview[]

Ogres are giant, horrific amalgamations of flesh and bone that come out of the ground. Composed of a bunch of dead bodies, they have a large amount of health which they can restore during the fight.

The Ogre's attacks take advantage of the creature's gigantic size and should be avoided at all costs. In addition to having a sweeping melee attack, the Ogre can also throw a giant, fleshy projectile to attack its targets from a distance, giving it larger attack range than most would assume. If the Cleaners enter a building for shelter, the Ogre will try to grab them through the doorway and throw them back outside.

When an Ogre loses 50% of its health, it will attempt to flee by burrowing into the ground. It will then reappear later on in the Mission with the same amount of health it had from when it first left. However if it appears as the result of a Corruption card it will not leave and instead fight till eliminated.

Strategy[]

  • Use all the tools at your disposal. Boss arenas tend to spawn in explosive barrels and propane. This can severely chip down its health rapidly. Items such as grenades are invaluable for doing large damage to it, especially with Accessory or Explosive damage cards. Flashbangs will stun the ogre, allowing you to hit its weak points with ease, as well as preventing it from moving for the duration on top of a -Damage Resistance debuff.
  • Fight It. While it is imposing upon first glance. Destroying its chest weakpoint will severely weaken it. As well, often with corruption cards active it can literally leave and return within less than a minute. In situations such as chapter 1-2 it can be kited around tall objects such as dumpsters or pillars and fought within the passageways of the first tunnel which is possible to do solo.
  • Avoid it. Due to its size and threat level, it can be advised for Cleaners to flee from an Ogre, especially if their resources and health are insufficient to take one on effectively. This however can be significantly more damaging toward the survivors as the Ogre often brings a horde with it in which those who are ill-prepared can easily fall.
  • Shelter ≠ protection. If the Cleaners choose to take shelter inside a building or structure that the Ogre cannot enter (such as the maintenance passageway in Act 1-2), they would be wise to stay far away from the doorway, as the Ogre may attempt to reach for the Cleaners through the door. If it manages to grab a Cleaner, it will pull them out and throw them outside, doing heavy damage and forcing the unlucky Cleaner to either confront the Ogre or find a way around it to get back inside.
  • Aim for the weakspots. Should the Cleaners choose to stand their ground and fight an Ogre, it is advised that they aim for the glowing flesh bulbs on its chest, neck, and back. Successfully destroying a bulb with sufficient damage will cause tremendous damage to the Ogre, though will also remove the weakspot from its body. If the team lacks the precision to aim for those bulbs or are in a outright bad position, it is best to run until more favorable conditions can be found to fight it in.
  • Anticipate and dodge its attacks. Ogres will generally attempt to pursue and grab or strike players. If the Cleaners are outside of their reach, the Ogre will create large, fleshy orbs to throw at them from a distance. While these orbs are too large to be dodged consistently, they can be shot out of the air.
  • Bring the boom. A common strategy for boss fights, the Ogre will take heavy damage from Frag Grenades, Molotov Cocktails, Propane Tanks and other explosives. Stockpile on explosives if the mission is expected to have an Ogre fight.

Notes[]

  • Players can defeat the Ogre to earn a bonus reward.
  • The Ogre is the largest natural spawning Ridden in the game and the third largest overall second only to the Harbinger and third to the Abomination.
  • Due to their brute strength and size the Ogre bears some resemblance to the monsters from Evolve.
    • The Ogre specifically bears resemblance to Goliath of which has a similar Rock Throwing ability as well as Digging similarly to early concepts of Goliath when it was named Scorpid
