Back 4 Blood Wiki

The Cultists are a formidable enemy faction in Back 4 Blood, representing a hybridization of humans and Ridden who heed the call of the Mother of Worms. These distinctive adversaries were introduced on August 30th, 2022, as part of the second expansion, Children of the Worm.

Aligned with the Ridden, the Cultists stand in opposition to the Cleaners, denoting them as The Unmarked. Within the game's narrative, they play a crucial role in the creation of Skull Totems and are believed to be responsible for strategically placing Legendary Weapons and various items within the perilous Ridden Hives. The emergence of Cultists adds a compelling layer to the ongoing conflict, contributing to the dynamic and immersive gameplay experience introduced in Back 4 Blood.

Official Description[]

Recent reports describe an alarming rise of attacks on survivors along the coast of Kanowa River. While the motivation of attacks remain unknown, these disturbing events share a common thread-assailants ambush unsuspecting groups, dragging away some victims and brutally butchering the rest. However, this intel conflicts with previously documented Ridden behavior and begs the question: Are we facing a new mutation, or is there something more sinister hunting humanity?[1]

Overview[]

The Cult comprises individuals who, whether willingly or coerced, entered into a symbiotic relationship with the Devil Worm. This union grants them the unique ability to seamlessly move among the Ridden, endowing them with resilience and strength surpassing human limits.

In contrast to the speech-incapable Mutations, Cultists retain their ability to communicate and skillfully wield melee weapons, firearms, and various tools. Notably, the cult is rumored to have established its main base at Kanowa County Jail, using it as a hub to recruit and strengthen their forces.

Distinct from playable Mutations, Cultists are exclusive to Campaign and Trial of The Worm modes, making them unavailable in player vs. player Swarm mode. Consequently, they are not accessible in the Fort Hope firing range for player practice.
