Back 4 Blood - Meet the Cleaners Trailer

The Cleaners, immune survivors of the Devil Worm apocalypse, are battle-hardened and united to combat the Ridden, striving to reclaim the remnants of the world.

In Back 4 Blood, there are twelve customizable Cleaners, each possessing distinct looks, personalities, dialogues, and backstories, facilitating quick identification. Their unique abilities and perks further set them apart. Players can opt for a specific Cleaner in the lobby or get automatically assigned one when joining an ongoing Mission.

As of Patch 1.03 on November 11, 2021, all eight original Cleaners are accessible for new players. Previously, players had to finish the first Chapter of Act 1, "The Devil's Return", to unlock Seo-yeon, Howard Robert Hoffman, Jim Hossler, and Karlee Fincher.

On April 12, 2022, the Tunnels of Terror expansion was introduced, bringing two new Cleaners: Heng and Sharice. These characters are accessible in the Campaign for expansion owners and can be used immediately in Swarm mode for DLC owners, or unlocked by completing Accomplishments.

Children of the Worm, released on August 30, 2022, welcomed another Cleaner: Dan, the 11th playable character. Like Heng and Sharice, Dan is exclusively available for expansion owners. Swarm players can access Dan after playing a minimum of five matches with him.

The final Annual Pass expansion, River of Blood, launched on December 6, 2022, presenting Tala Yazdi, Derek's elder sister and a former Cultist member, as the 12th playable Cleaner. Similar to Dan, Heng, and Sharice, Tala is exclusive to expansion owners. Notably, Tala Yazdi is limited to the PvE game modes and cannot be unlocked for Swarm mode.
