Back 4 Blood - Meet the Cleaners Trailer

The Cleaners are people who are immune to the Devil Worm parasite and survived the apocalypse. Hardened by the unspeakable events and emboldened to fight for humanity, these groups of veterans of the apocalypse have rallied together to take on the parasite-infected horrors known as the Ridden to take back what is left of the world.

Back 4 Blood features ten customizable Cleaners. Each playable Cleaner has their own unique appearance, personality, dialogue, and backstory, making them easier to identify at a distance. They also have unique abilities and perks. Players can choose which Cleaner they control in the lobby, or be automatically assigned to a Cleaner that is not being controlled by a player when they join a game that is already in progress.

With Patch 1.03 that got released on November, 11th 2021, all eight original Cleaners are available for new players.
Before the patch, players had to complete the first chapter of act 1, The Devil's Return, in order to unlock Doc, Hoffman, Jim and Karlee.

On March, 1st 2022, Turtle Rock Studios announced more details regarding the first expansion Tunnels of Terror which introduced two new Cleaners on April 12th, 2022: Heng and Sharice. These two characters are available for the Campaign for owners of the expansion. For Swarm, these can be either be used immediately for DLC owners or being unlocked by completing Accomplishments.

With Children of the Worm, which is scheduled for release on August 30th, 2022, another Cleaner joins the team: Dan will be 11th playable character.
