Children of the Worm

Children of the Worm, codenamed Bodysnatchers, is Back 4 Blood's second expansion of the Annual Pass that got released on August 30, 2022.

It features an all-new campaign act, a new enemy type dubbed Cultists, one new Cleaner, eight exclusive character skins, twelve new weapon skins, new cards, weapons and more.

All playable content included in the Children of the Worm expansion is accessible by all players in a party as long as one player in that party has purchased the expansion.

On July 15, 2022, Turtle Rock Studios teased the new expansion via X. ^[1] After the development team asked for the patience of the community on July 15, 2022, the release date and an infographic were presented to the public on August 4, 2022.

New Campaign Story: Act 5[]

The new expansion added a fifth act to the Campaign, which consists of one chapter and six missions.
This expanded the Campaign to a total of 5 Acts, 11 Chapters and 39 Missions.

Players who either own the expansion themselves or have at least one player on their team who has purchased this content can jump into this Act. Furthermore, players do not need to have completed any of the previous Acts to be able to enter Act 5. Only the restrictions mentioned above are in effect.

As the Ridden Hives in the Tunnels of Terror expansion were already excluded from matchmaking via Quickplay, this rule also applies to Act 5, as this content is tied to the respective expansion.

This Act also includes so-called Duffel Bags, which can be obtained exclusively in this part of the campaign. They are interactive free loot boxes that players can find within the Missions and are rewarded with a random reward after successful completion.

These can include Banners, Cards, Burn Cards, Emblems, Outfits, and Sprays, among other things.

Cleaner Squads with at least one player owning the Tunnels of Terror expansion will have a chance for Ridden Hives to appear in their playthroughs.

New Cleaner: Dan[]

Main article: Dan

Dan, a male Cleaner that calls himself "Prophet" joined the fray. He is available exclusively for owners of the second expansion. Players who want to play this Cleaner in Swarm mode will have to complete a five Swarm matches before Dan becomes available to them.

On August 22, 2022, Matthew Waterson was announced^[2] as the voice actor for Dan and a teaser for the trailer premiere^[3] of Children of the Worm by Turtle Rock Studios. The trailer premiered on August 29, 2022 at 06:00 a.m. PT / 09:00 a.m. ET / 13.00 p.m. UTC.

Cultists[]

Main article: Cultists

Cultists are a new type of AI-controlled enemies that stand in the way of the Cleaners.

First we have the Crone, which rains down arrows upon the Cleaners from afar and ensures there will be no escapes.
Toxic assistance is provided by the all-new Pusflinger who is use jars of pus against those who stand in the cult's way to Paradise.
Watch out for the Slasher who is all about turning the Cleaners into mincemeat for their blood sacrifices with his Claws.
And last but not least, the Sniper will not miss any opportunity to attack you from ambush.

Cleaners can find their weapons within the Mission, obtain them via Burn Cards or buy them via the Vendor to use these weapons against them.

Expanded Arsenal[]

New accessories and weapons have ben implemented with this expansion and are available to any Cleaner squad. Furthermore, these items, like the new Cultists, are not limited to the fifth act.

The Cleaners' arsenal have been expanded by the following accessories and weapons:

Bait Jar: A jar filled with pus that will attract Ridden.
Bear Trap: Locks target in place. Deals damage over time.
Bow: Quickly fires for moderate damage. Slowly draw arrows for increased damage and accuracy.
Iron Claws: A pair of claws. Fast slashes apply bleed damage and increase melee attack speed.
Lockjaw: Damage dealt to armor is also dealt to the Ridden's Health.
Smoke Grenade: Creates a cloud of smoke on impact. Reduce perception of Ridden, hiding Cleaners inside the smoke.

New Cosmetics[]

Outfits[]

Among other things, new Outfits were introduced for the following Cleaners: Karlee, Walker, Evangelo, Christine Tuttle, Holly, Heng, Jim and Seo-yeon

On August 16, 2022, Turtle Rock Studios presented another Outfit for Holly, reminiscent of a roller derby outfit.
The next day, a costume for Christine Tuttle was unveiled.

Weapon Skins[]

In addition, owners of the expansion received twelve different skins for their weapons in an 8-bit look.
The weapons that can use the 8-bit skin are the following:
AA12, AK47, Bat, Fire Axe, Hatchet, MP5, Machete, Phoenix 350L, Super 90, TAC14, UMP45, and Vector.

The expansion has introduced new cards that allows Cleaners to customize their play style once they have claimed them via the Duffel Bag loot boxes.
