The Abomination is the largest and most powerful Ridden in the game (as of launch) and is the final boss of Back 4 Blood.
The creature's appearance is of that of a long torso with a monstrous head and multiple tentacles coming from it. Its tentacles can extend and act as separate entities when fought, and they themselves have their own set of mouths. Regardless of the difficulty level, neither the monster's total health nor that of its individual parts is affected.
Stages[]
The Abomination is unique among the bosses as it is fought in three different stages, do note that all non-Boss Ridden types in the game can spawn in the fight. Its first Stage has the Cleaners fighting its tentacles above ground. They will slam down onto Cleaners. Once any of the first three tentacles is destroyed, a Horde will be spawned and briefly after that it will act as a hazard, spewing acid, limiting the Cleaners' room for movement. The Cleaners will have to defeat four tentacles before jumping and sliding down one of the tunnels created by the tentacles, going into an underground chamber for Stage 2.
In Stage 2 the Abomination's head and tentacles will be sticking through the wall of the chamber and it will proceed to attack the Cleaners with them using jab and slam attacks, the tentacles will also take up room in the chamber limiting movement space, finally the Abominations Roar will send close Cleaners flying back and if they are too close it will bite them dealing alot of damage. In order to pass this stage the Cleaners must destroy the Abomination's two mouth weakpoints, once they are defeated it will back away and move onto its final stage.
In its third and final Stage the Cleaners must defeat the Abomination within five minutes before it gets to Fort Hope. Similarly to Stage 2, the Cleaners must destroy the weakspots, but each weakspot will be disabled if suffering enough damage, in the same way. During this stage, the Abomination is in constant motion, which adds an extra level of difficulty to staying on top of its weak points. The tentacles of the Abomination will continuously release acid, while the presence of multiple holes poses a risk for Cleaners who may inadvertently fall in and sustain fall-related injuries. Additionally, some distance have to be kept, as the monster's body can smash and incapacitate or even kill Cleaners for split-seconds if not careful enough.
Strategy[]
General Strategy[]
Use cards with increased weakspot damage. Due to the fact that the Abomination can only take damage from weakspots, you can quickly grind the boss down if you take cards that increase weakspot damage or damage in general. These cards are also useful for dealing with specials that spawn during the boss fight.
Stage One[]
Focus on one tentacle at a time. If you and your team focus fires on a tentacle you can kill it quickly and with minimal damage. Be aware, however, that common and special Ridden spawn each time a tentacle is killed.
Stage Two[]
Use grenades. Throwing grenades into the Abomination's mouth weakpoints is a quick way to whittle down its health. However, every time a grenade is thrown the damage cause may make the Abomination close its mouth.
Use pipe bombs. Pipe bombs can help keep common ridden off you and your team in the confined space, especially when one or more cleaners are downed. Throwing the pipe bomb toward the Abomination will help keep the Ridden far from you and your team.
Stage Three[]
Target the bottom weakpoints first. You will have fewer opportunities to damage these weakpoints so it's best you destroy these weakpoints first.
Notes[]
- The Abomination is one of the few completely scripted Ridden spawns in the game alongside The Swarm (which have scripted events) appearing only in the final Mission of the game.
